NSRF Project: Microfluidic Microsystems for Molecular Diagnostics

micro2gen is currently in the last stage of a milestone development project for the company's know-how in the framework of the NSRF program "Creation - support of new innovative businesses, mainly highly knowledge intensive ones (Spin-off and Spin-out)" entitled Microfluidic Microsystems for Molecular Diagnostics"

The project is part of the company's development strategy and aims at the development of in-house know-how for the design and prototyping of microfluidic microsystems based on polymeric materials, as well as establishing the complete value chain for the production of larger quantities on demand.

More than 598 experiments were performed using different versions of microsystems developed for the detection of infecrious diseases that play an important role in prenatal diagnostics, e.g. CMV, herpes simplex, toxoplasmosis, and additionally Leishmania. The microsystems featured a flexible PCR solution and hybridization detection based on two different technologies: optical detection and electrochemical detection. Sensors for the detection of hybridization were developed by strategic partners of the company in Spain and Greece and incorporated in the microsystem by micro2gen.
